Welcome to the Dynamic Duel Podcast, a weekly show where we review superhero films and debate the superiority between Marvel and DC by comparing their characters in stat-based battle simulations. I'm Johnny DC. And I'm his twin brother Marvelous Joe. And Happy Fourth of July everyone! Happy Independence Day!

00:58
You're supposed to do the other side of that. Come on. Were you trying to harmonize right there? Yeah. I don't do that. You don't harmonize? I only sing solo. Okay. Maybe next time sing solo, we can't hear you. Classic joke. Anyway, what are we talking about? General Zod versus Sentry. That is this episode. The Sentry is like one of the most requested characters. So this episode is a long time coming.

01:27
And of course, it's a tie in to two episodes ago when we reviewed The Flash. Right, because General Zod made an appearance in The Flash movie. We're going to break down the characters' histories and abilities. But before that, we're going to go over the latest comic book movie news, of which there is one major news item. Superman and Lois Lane have been cast in the upcoming Superman legacy film directed by James Gunn. Super pumped, super stoked. Can't wait to talk about it.

01:53
Yeah, quick disclaimer, Jonathan and I are recording this episode a bit early because Jonathan is going on vacation this upcoming week. He's going to Mexico in the Mayan Riviera. Lucky bastard, he's going to be sipping on virgin pina coladas because he's a virgin who does not drink. But Jonathan, have one for me and think of me back home in Colorado. I will, but I will drink an extra pina colada for you. There you go.

02:21
Because Jonathan's going on vacation, if there is any major news item that we miss for this week, we'll be sure to discuss it in our next episode. But as always, we list our segment times in our episode description, so feel free to check out the show notes if you want to skip ahead to a particular topic. Those of you who have listened to our recent episodes will know that our duel simulator has become so advanced that it's gained sentience, and has named itself the Artificial Lifeform for Running Extensive Duels, just a rather very intelligent simulator 9000. Or...

02:50
Alfred Jarvis 9000. He has a quick message for our listeners, so let's hear it.

02:57
Why hello there. Do you love listening and chatting about Marvel and DC? Then become a part of the dynamic duel community on Patreon, where you can choose from three tiers. The dynamic two-o tier lets you listen to this podcast without ads and gives you access to its discord chat group, where you can chat with Johnny DC and Marvellous Joe.

03:16
The Fantastic Four tier gives you that and more with two bonus episodes each month, including bloopers and top ten shows where Johnny and Joe count down your favorite Marvel and DC subjects. The X-Force tier makes you an executive producer of Dynamic Duel, where every month you help the hosts choose what to review and who to fight against each other. And finally, the Dynamite Podcast Network tier allows aspiring podcasters to create their own battle-focused show using this Monte Carlo simulator.

03:46
Thanks, AJ9K, and thanks to everyone who supports the podcast. Don't forget, guys, that Dynamic Duel has its own podcast network now called the Dino Mic Network. Right now, in addition to this podcast, you can listen to the Max Destruction podcast.

04:15
which also uses our Monte Carlo simulator to find out who would win in matchups between action movie heroes. So check it out, again, that's Max Destruction. But with that out of the way, quick to the no prize. Actually, there is no no prize segment. Oh, that's right, now. Jonathan is gonna be on vacation, so we're still taking answers from last week's question, which is...

04:43
After Venom, Morbius, Vulture, and Kraven, what two other Spidey villains do you want to get their own films and join Sony's Sinister Six? Yeah, and this question of course was coming off of the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter. Make sure to record your answer at dynamicduel.com by clicking on the red microphone button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. That'll prompt you to leave us a voicemail. Your message could be up to 30 seconds long, and don't forget to leave your name in case we include you on the podcast. We'll pick our favorite answer.

05:11
and award that person a Dynamic Doughnut Prize that we'll post to Instagram and our email newsletter. Be sure to answer before July 8th. And now that that's done, onto the news!

05:28
Okay, for the past month we had heard rumors that James Gunn, the head of DC Studios and the director of the upcoming Superman Legacy film, would be narrowing down his casting choices for the two lead roles in that film. I didn't think we were going to hear who was cast until Comic-Con, but it looks like the upcoming Screen Actors Guild strike has hastened the casting announcement because

05:54
DC Studios potentially may not be at Comic Con this year, you know, just like a number of studios due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. So lucky for us, we've learned that David Cornswett and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast as Superman and Lois Lane respectively. And I am thrilled. Like I've been really, really depressed lately, especially since, you know, The Flash and its second weekend got fourth place at the box office and Spider-Man Across the Universe got number one.

06:22
I just felt like DC was at rock bottom. But after this casting announcement, it is so good to be a DC fan. I am pumped. You're such a bipolar DC fan. Is there any other kind? No, this is great news. I'm actually familiar with none of their work. Neither David Cornsweat nor Rachel Brosnahan. But they definitely look the parts from what I've seen.

06:48
Yeah, they're somewhat obscure actors. Maybe that's not fair. I mean, Rachel Brosnahan has won multiple Emmys for her performance as Miss Maisel in the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel TV show. And she's fantastic in that. My wife watches that show. She loves it. I've caught episodes. I thought she was great. She has all of the spunk and wit and just fearlessness. I think that it takes to play a character like Lois Lane. I was hoping when I heard that she was one of the finalists that she was going to be cast.

07:17
and it's so awesome to have that realized. I think she's going to be a phenomenal Lois Lane, probably and potentially the very best Lois Lane that we've ever seen on screen. David Cornswett, I am not too familiar with his work. I haven't seen Pearl, but now I'm going to for sure. I hear he's great in that. He looks the part for sure. Kudos to James Gunn for these fantastic picks. He's good at casting, so I shouldn't be surprised that these are such good choices.

07:46
The David Cornsweat choice in particular seems like a fan favorite, so that's awesome. Of course we won't see the film for a number of years. It's not scheduled to be released until July 11th, 2025, so about two years from now, we're gonna have a whole year in 2024 with just one DC theatrical release. That's the joker folly-a-doo. Good, that's how it should be, for DC. Not for Marvel. God, that would suck if it was Marvel. Whatever.

08:14
It's just, I guess it's a preview of the 2024 Brothers Awards. Every award is going to be the Joker, follow ya do. The Superman legacy film is really important. There may not be a more important DC film to ever come out that just really needs to hit the nail on the head and be successful. So here's hoping that David Cornsweat and Rachel Brosnahan can take us there with James Gunn. Hopefully they can take us higher. No, I'm not going to.

08:44
I was about to bust out some creed there, but I was like, we've already done one musical number. We don't need to. You avoided my trap. Good job, sir.

09:03
Hey guys, Marvelous Joe here to wish everyone a happy summer season. You know, with warmer weather upon us, I like to go outside, go for walks or hikes, go to parks and dine out on patios, but all that time outdoors can get excruciatingly hot and staying hydrated is essential. Just ask Aquaman, he can attest to that. Thing is though, I'm notorious for not drinking enough water. I know it's an issue, but that's partially why I use Liquid IV, which is an electrolyte

09:32
that you add to water that hydrates you twice as fast. So if I'm out and about, I never get dehydrated, which is important if I'm at a concert, playing pickup volleyball, or going to a brewery or coffee shop. I just pour some Liquid IV in my water and BAM, I'm practically Neymar the Submariner. Think of Liquid IV like a sports drink, but with three times the electrolytes, and it's in powdered form so you can add it to any drink. Their small packets are super convenient to carry around with you in your pocket so you always have one on hand.

10:02
In addition to staying hydrated, I love using Liquid IV because it makes water taste better. Like to me, water is boring. So I flavor it up with lemon lime, pina colada, watermelon, or one of their other awesome flavors. And actually they just came out with the strawberry lemonade, and I guarantee you, I'm picking that up right now. And you listeners can do the same at Liquid IV's website and buy it for less using this podcast's offer. Get 20% off.

when you go to liquidiv.com and use code duel, that's D-U-E-L, at checkout. That's 20% off anything you order when you shop better hydration today using promo code duel at liquidiv.com. You can also shop using the link that's in our show notes. This summer, stay on top of your hydration and do it for less with our promo code duel sponsored by Liquid IV. Thanks friends, means a lot.

10:59
But I think that does it for all the news for this episode. Now let's move on to the main event, where we find out who's going to win in a duel between the Superman villain, General Zod, and the Avenger, the Sentry.

11:26
Okay, General Zod versus the Sentry, these are two solar powered, super powered, highly super powered individuels. They're both essentially analogs to Superman. Right, yeah, there are a few Superman ripoffs in Marvel, including, you know, the Sentry, Gladiator, Hyperion, Blue Marvel, a bunch of them. But the Sentry is our most often requested Superman ripoff to do a duel with. I'm surprised it's taken us this long to actually get to a duel with him.

11:54
But I think a lot of Marvel guys want to see him in a fight because they know just how powerful he is. He's one of Marvel's most powerful characters. Who started off as like an April Fool's joke. Something like that, yeah. Basically, Marvel went to Wizard Magazine, which was the comic book magazine at the time, and told them they had discovered an old forgotten creation of Stan Lee called the Sentry. And so, Paul Jenkins and Jay Lee made this mini-series around the character where basically...

12:21
He was Marvel's greatest hero, but everyone forgot about him because he and Mr. Fantastic created a device to erase everyone's memories of him due to his evil alter ego. It was a great story, fantastic story, but it was later revealed that the whole story about discovering Stan Lee's forgotten creation was a sham and Paul Jenkins just wanted to write this story. So the character is a joke. You know who's not a joke? General Zod. And that's why he's going to win this. General Zod is a joke. I'm sorry, what? You've never seen like the kneel before Zod meme?

12:51
Yeah, it's the most badass meme ever. It's like no jokiness in it. It's totally unironic every time it's used. All right. OK. Well, let's go ahead and see who would win in a fight to explain the methodology behind our duels. Our sentient duel simulator, Alfred Jarvis, nine thousand, is going to go over how he determines a winner in our duel matchups. Yes, of course, sir. The way I determine a winner between the contestants is by running 1000 Monte Carlo simulations using the characters statistics.

13:20
A Monte Carlo simulation is a probabilistic model used to determine outcomes through random sampling. In this case, I randomised the statistics along a normal distribution as a way to simulate the many variables that can occur during battle. The stat parameters are based on the official Marvel power grid from which the DC characters' statistics are extrapolated. Additional stat categories are included such as range, damage potential, versatility and perception in order to create a more detailed and accurate simulation.

13:48
The results of the 1000 simulations provide a percentage of wins for each character. The contestant with the higher percentage is declared the victor, as they have a higher probability to win any given battle. In an equitable pairing, neither character should win 100% of the matches. The comic book stories have shown that there's even a way for Batman to defeat Superman, so the confidence rate of my method falls in line with the precedents that have been established in the source material. My mathematical simulations are without subjectivity or bias.

14:18
Feats are not the sole consideration, nor are fan votes tabulated for determination of the winner. Thanks AJ9K! Before we run the simulations though, we like to break down each character's histories and abilities before improvising a scenario on how we imagine one of the 1000 simulations would play out beat for beat. And I believe it's my turn to go first with the Marvel character, so let me go ahead and tell you all about the Sentry. In 1947, after World War II and the disappearance of Steve Rogers, Captain America,

14:47
The US and Canadian governments launched Project Sentry as a part of Operation Rebirth, tasking scientists with recreating and vastly improving upon the Super Soldier Serum. Over the years and decades of working on the improved serum, Operation Rebirth ran into multiple setbacks. Cold War politics and red tape fragmented the project, and the lab work was outsourced among multiple private subcontractors. With a dissolved central administration and few successes,

15:17
Project Sentry was largely forgotten. However, over a decade later, one of the project's subcontractors, a humble high school science professor, had unknowingly developed something remarkable called the Golden Sentry Serum. One of the professor's students was a teenager named Robert Reynolds, a freshman with schizophrenia, an anxiety disorder, and meth addiction. Looking for a quick fix, he broke into the professor's lab and stumbled upon the Golden Sentry Serum.

15:45
which he drank in an attempt to get high. Robert was immediately infused with solar-powered abilities, but due to his psychiatric instability, his mind split and manifested into two entities. The first was an evil persona called The Void, who emanated darkness and fed on souls. The second entity was a golden hero known as The Sentry, the power of a million exploding suns. The two entities separated, unaware of their connection to each other,

16:13
while the Sentry would revert to his Robert Reynolds secret identity, now living a seemingly more normal life when not suiting up to fight crime. With a heightened intelligence, Robert constructed a high tech headquarters for himself in downtown Manhattan called the Watchtower, which was overseen by an artificial intelligence he developed named CLOCK, which stood for Centrally Located Organic Computer. His heroic exploits became world renowned, and he fought and defeated villains such as Kingpin, Dr. Doom, the Super

16:43
and even Galactus. Robert also served as a mentor and friend for many new superheroes coming onto the scene, including Mr. Fantastic, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Professor X, and Spider-Man. He married his high school crush Lindy Lee in a ceremony that nearly all of his fellow heroes attended. All seemed to be going well for the hero, until the day his dark alternate self, The Void, manifested, devoting to killing as many people as the

17:11
Emerging from his base in Antarctica, the Void descended upon New York City and slaughtered thousands. The Sentry and his friends teamed up to defeat the evil dark entity, but the Void was too powerful. With most of Earth's heroes and all of humanity on the brink of destruction, Robert recognized the Void as an aspect of his own personality, and he and his friend Mr. Fantastic developed a device powered by his golden Sentry serum that would psychically erase the existence of the Sentry from the minds of everyone on the planet, including

17:41
Robert himself. With Robert forgetting the existence of his two personas, the void and the sentry disappeared, and though the earth was saved, the world forgot all about one of the greatest heroes that ever defended it. For a long time, Robert lived a humble existence as an agoraphobic shut-in with his wife, Lindy. However, years later, the void began crawling his way back into Robert's subconscious and subsequently, reality. Recognizing that the void was returning,

18:09
Memories of his superhero career as the Sentry began resurfacing. Robert reached out to his former hero friends, warning them of the Void's impending return, and slowly revived to their own recollection of their adventures together. As the Void began spreading across the globe and killing innocents, it encroached upon Manhattan as the Sentry stood alongside the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange in defense.

18:34
However, as the heroes' memories returned, so did their memory of why the Sentry's existence had to be erased in the first place. With a heartfelt goodbye, Robert and Mr. Fantastic recreated the psychic device, once again erasing the world's perception of the Sentry and all of his heroic exploits. This time though, the persistent Void came crawling back into Robert's subconscious even quicker, and unaware of what to do this time, he relinquished himself to the authorities to be held in the Raft Prison in order to protect others.

19:03
from his evil counterpart. When the villain Electro orchestrated a mass breakout of the Raft, the Sentry joined other heroes in quelling the chaos, though none of them knew who he was. Believing that he could control the emergence of the Void by psychologically manipulating himself into believing he had trapped the entity in his Watchtower base, Robert reclaimed his superhero mantle as the Sentry and joined the New Avengers. Eventually, however, Robert's self-deception withered away.

19:32
and he and his newfound teammates were forced to battle the Void. Robert, as the Sentry, threw the Void into the sun, though he knew that as long as the Sentry existed, the Void would inevitably return. After the superhuman civil war over government oversight led to the rise in power of Norman Osborn, the former Green Goblin took over the group of former villains turned heroes known as the Thunderbolts. You can learn more about Norman Osborn in our Joker vs. Green Goblin duel episode, and more about the Thunderbolts...

20:00
in our Lex Luthor vs Baron Zemo duel. Transitioning his Thunderbolts team into the Dark Avengers, Norman Osborn recruited Robert to the Dark Avengers with promises of psychiatric help. However, Osborn's true aim was to unleash the Void, which he accomplished by killing Robert's wife, Lindy. The Void emerged and aided Osborn in laying siege to Asgard, the home of Thor and his fellow Asgardian race. While the Void was successful in helping bring Asgard down, Robert

20:29
begged for Thor to kill him to put a stop to the siege, and Thor reluctantly obliged. Thor laid Robert's remains to rest inside the sun, but the villain Apocalypse had other plans for him, extracting his remains and resurrecting him as his horseman of death. The Avengers were able to convince Robert to reject Apocalypse's programming, and he helped in their defeat of the celestial being called Exetar the Executioner. You can learn more about Apocalypse and his relationship to the Celestials

20:57
in our Black Adam vs Apocalypse duel episode. Robert then left Earth and wandered space, hoping to find a way to die once and for all. However, his old friend Dr. Strange was able to provide a solution by releasing the Void in an effort to stop Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief, and then imprisoning the entity in his sanctum sanctorum. Keeping the Void in place using a virtual dreamscape created by Iron Man, Robert thought he was finally free to live as a hero. Though during a later fight-

21:26
Robert was cast into the dreamscape where the sentry and void were merged into one being. Pondering his new state, Robert left this dimension into the negative zone, where his solar-powered abilities reversed and he instead soaked up negative cosmic rays. This expelled the void, who then began to take over the negative zone, leading Robert to team up with the Silver Surfer to stop the entity by re-merging Robert's personalities again. Robert returned to Earth's dimension,

21:54
and fought alongside Earth's heroes against Null, the primordial deity who created the alien Klyntar symbiotes, and Null ripped the sentry void merger into pieces. Robert remained in pieces until he was magically resurrected by a mystical cult as their vessel, but Dr. Strange was able to ensure his tragic friend returned to resting in peace. And that's the backstory of the Sentry. Holy shit, what a tragic tale. Let this be a lesson, kids. Don't do meth.

22:26
And don't break into chemists' laboratories and just drink random formulas for sure. Exactly, what the fuck? Powers-wise, the Sentry is powered by the Golden Sentry Serum, which allows him to absorb solar radiation. This photokinetic ability grants him immortality and vastly enhanced superhuman speed, intelligence, and strength, able to lift well in excess of 100 tons. He's virtually invulnerable, has enhanced senses, and can project energy in the form of light and heat.

22:54
at a level that can destroy entire city blocks. The sentry can fly, can teleport, can turn invisible and has a limitless regenerative healing factor. He does have some vulnerabilities however, including psychological instability which occasionally leads to lesser control of his powers, he is weak to negatively charged matter, such as that from the negative zone, and he can be hurt by magical or spiritual based attacks. Now I remember reading once that his powers were...

23:22
derived because he exists like one second in the future or some bullshit like that? Yeah, his molecules are kind of shifted a moment into the future. I don't know how that explains his abilities, but yeah, that's been stated. OK, I was hoping you would explain that to me because I thought that was the stupidest reason for a set of powers ever. No, it's better just to think of the source of his powers as being photokinetic. OK, so like Superman, like Zod. Sure. Well, let's get into Zod.

23:49
Now there have been several versions of General Zod in the comics, many of which were from alternate dimensions in order to maintain Superman's title as the last son of Krypton. You can learn more about Superman in his duel episode against Dr. Doom. One version of General Zod was from a pocket dimension where he and his allies survived the destruction of Krypton, managed to kill that dimension's version of Superboy, and ravaged the Earth.

24:18
managed to reach out to DC's Prime Dimension and pleaded with the main Superman for help. Superman was able to stop Zod and his allies with Gold Kryptonite, which in that dimension had no effect on Superman. Having been stripped of their powers, Zod and his allies vowed to one day regain their abilities and destroy his Earth just as they had destroyed that dimension's. Feeling he had no choice but to kill them, Superman did so.

24:47
with Green Kryptonite. Damn. I don't know, people get mad about the next snap. I don't know. A subsequent version of General Zod emerged from an alternate reality created by Brainiac 12, who you could learn more about in our Brainiac vs Ultron duel episode. After attempting to take over Brainiac's bottled Kryptonian city of Kandor, which Brainiac had stolen and shrunk as a trophy from the planet Krypton before its destruction, Zod was defeated by

25:15
and that alternate realities version of his father, Jor-El. A human version of Zod came about eventually, who was the son of two Russian cosmonauts who were bombarded by kryptonite radiation in space when their ship came too close to Kal-El's as it entered Earth. The cosmonauts eventually died from radiation poisoning, but not before they gave birth to a baby named Aruskin, though he was raised in a KGB laboratory under the name Zed.

25:43
Unnaturally weak under Earth's Yellow Sun and believing himself haunted by the ghost of the version of Zod that was killed by Kryptonite, Zed took up the mantle of General Zod, after building a red suit of armor that bathed him in red solar radiation that somehow empowered him with abilities of Superman. After conquering the fictional nation of Bacolistan, Zed successfully turned Earth's Yellow Sun

26:10
though Lex Luthor was able to revert it back to normal. Vulnerable once again, Zedd accidentally killed himself when he charged and crashed into the now invulnerable Superman at super speed. Okay, okay. The true and original Zod, named Druzod, was a general of the Kryptonian military loyal to the governing body of Krypton known as the Kryptonian Science Council.

26:37
The descendant of a long line of renowned military generals, Druzad, otherwise known as Zod, was ruthless and fiercely loyal to the Council, earning him his high rank and the admiration of his lieutenant, Ursa. On behalf of the Council, Zod and Ursa arrested the scientists, Nan and his former protege, Jor-El, on charges of heresy when the data from their experiments theorized Krypton's destruction.

27:04
While Nan and Jor-El were released with a warning not to pursue their theories and cause undue unrest to Krypton's citizens, Zod reviewed the data and learned that their conclusions were correct. Krypton would soon explode. Defecting from the Council, Zod joined forces with Nan, helping him warn the people of Krypton of their potential doom if nothing were done to stop it. For these actions, the Science Council captured Nan and lobotomized him.

27:33
turning him into a mindless brute. Appalled and enraged by the Council's actions, Zod decided that the only way to save Krypton was to overthrow the Council. Though Jor-El, the father of infant Kel-El, who would one day be Superman, rejected Zod's notion that violence was the only path forward, Zod proceeded with his coup and, with Ursa and Nan at his side, was successful in killing five members of the Science Council before he was apprehended.

28:03
The three were saved by Jor-El, who used the last of his credibility with the Council to influence them to exile Zod and his allies to the Phantom Zone, rather than execute them. Jor-El was forced, however, by the Council to be the one to jail them, which he did amidst the hateful rants of Zod, who felt Jor-El had betrayed him and vowed revenge against him and his son.

28:32
Where beings were immaterial and ageless, Zod and his allies drifted aimlessly during Krypton's destruction, during which time the Phantom Zone projector misfired and sent a portion of a military prison known as Fort Raz into the Phantom Zone. Upon finding and entering Fort Raz, Zod, Ursa, and Nan somehow regained their material form and maintained it as long as they remained within the fort.

28:58
After years of collecting scrap and other exiled Kryptonians that he recruited into his amassing army, Zod was able to build drones capable of leaving the Phantom Zone, allowing him to search the cosmos and find Kael'el on Earth. After Zod and Ursa were able to conceive a child within the Phantom Zone, whom they named Lor Zod, they managed to build a spaceship with which they were able to send Lor Zod from the Phantom Zone to Earth.

29:28
by Clark Kent and Lois Lane, who named him Christopher Kent. Lorzod's spaceship also acted as a beacon and tether to which Zod and his army were able to escape the Phantom Zone and invade Earth, launching a massive attack on the city of Metropolis and successfully imprisoning Superman within the Phantom Zone. With the help of Lex Luthor and Lorzod, who betrayed his father, Superman managed to escape the Phantom Zone and defeat Zod.

29:57
returning him and his allies back to the Phantom Zone. Years later, when the formerly shrunken and bottled Kryptonian city of Kandor was restored and the planet of New Krypton was established and positioned on the opposite side of the sun as Earth, Allura Inzei, the mother of Supergirl and a member of the New Kryptonian Science Council, freed Zod and his allies from the Phantom Zone, pardoned and restored to his former position as the general of Krypton's military guild,

30:26
Zod became a loyal Kryptonian citizen once again. After being wounded in an assassination attempt by Lois Lane's father, the US General Sam Lane, who distrusted Kryptonians, Zod chose Superman to be the acting general of New Krypton in his stead, though he returned to command when Brainiac attacked Krypton once again. After helping defeat Brainiac and being declared a hero, Zod then declared war on Earth for its assassination attempt on him.

30:56
The war resulted in the destruction of New Krypton and the deaths of a vast majority of the Kryptonian race. Those that did survive, including Zod, were banished once again to the Phantom Zone by Superman and Lor Zod. In post-Flashpoint continuity, Dru Zod and Jor-El were childhood friends, after Jor-El and his brother Zor-El saved Dru Zod from a Kryptonian jungle accident that left Zod an orphan.

31:25
After Jor-El created a pocket dimension he named the Survival Zone, Zod determined it could be useful as a prison, which the Science Council approved and renamed it the Phantom Zone. This caused a rift between the two friends that lasted even until Jor-El presented his findings to the Council that Krypton would soon explode. Zod's idea to move Krypton's entire population to the Phantom Zone was rejected, though he moved all of Krypton's prisoners there despite protests.

31:55
For his actions, Zod was also banished to the Phantom Zone. Eventually, Zod found his way out, along with his army of Kryptonian prisoners, though Superman was able to banish them once again. Zod was later recruited into the Suicide Squad for a time, after which he relocated his family to the far reaches of space on a primitive planet named Jakkuul that orbited twin yellow suns. Regarded as a god amongst the native inhabitants,

32:24
Zod used them to build Kryptonian structures in his honor. His actions were eventually noticed by the Green Lantern Corps, who managed to stop him, though both sides suffered casualties. And that's his history so far. Powers-wise, General Zod possesses all of the powers of Superman under the ultraviolet radiation of a yellow sun, including vast strength, speed, and durability, the latter of which is improved thanks to the military armor he often wears.

32:53
He also possesses flight, enhanced senses, heat vision, and super breath. Zod is a brilliant military strategist, expert combatant, and a weapons expert, though like Superman, he is weakened by kryptonite radiation. And that's Zod. Zod has a pretty interesting backstory. I didn't know there were so many different versions of him. Too many versions. But the true Zod's backstory is interesting, I agree. It was nice to see that, you know, Superman kills his enemies.

33:22
no matter what medium he appears in. Right. So all the people are crying foul about him snapping Zod's neck in a man of steel. Can you know, shut up, I guess? Yeah. Stop crying about it. Cry me a river, then build a bridge and get over it.

33:46
But now that we've got their histories and abilities out of the way, let's speculate on how one of the 1000 simulated matches will go. The winner is determined by simulations, not this speculation, but it's fun to imagine how this fight could play out. Alfred Jarvis 9000, what are the rules of this speculation? Well, I should say there are no rules, other than the characters have no prior knowledge of the other going into the fight. All they are aware of starting out is that the other character is a threat that needs to be eliminated.

34:15
For the speculation, the contestants will begin approximately 50 meters apart in a non-descript environment that will have no bearing on the match itself, as no environmental statistics are considered in my simulations. The contestants must earn victory on their own merit. Alright, then let's get into it. General Zod and Sentry meet on the battlefield. Who goes first? I mean, it sounds to me like the Sentry is more unstable than Zod, like who's a bit more cold and calculating.

34:44
So I think Sentry would go first. You're damn right he would. Sentry's gonna start off by blazing right through General Zod at like Mach 100, just flying through that full, exploding him all over the battlefield. Match over. Actually, what Sentry flies into is twin heat vision beams that are emitting from Zod's eyes because he reacted at super speed. And the intense burning from those beams is gonna throw Sentry off course.

35:11
and he's just gonna crash into the ground instead. The Sentry could fly into the sun. These heat vision beams are not even gonna hurt him. Plus, Sentry would just throw up this thin light energy force field that covers his body and just absorbs Zod's heat vision energy. Oh yeah? Yeah, well, Zod's heat vision was just a distraction anyway to temporarily obscure Sentry's eyesight during this blitz. So Sentry doesn't notice when Zod dashes to the side.

35:41
just rocks back and uppercuts Sentry right in the stomach as he flies by, just like perfect timing and that's going to take all of the oxygen out of Sentry's lungs. And right away Zod's going to follow up by grabbing Sentry by his long blonde hair and just freeze breath his head. So it's like frozen encased in ice and then Zod's going to slam Sentry into the ground head first, shattering his head to pieces. Fatality. Alright Sub-Zero.

36:11
Sentry's head is too durable to sh- it's not gonna shatter. Ugh. So what happens is, with how hard Zod slammed him, the Sentry just gets driven into the ground, and uh, he's gonna go with it. Sentry's gonna keep flying down through the ground until he gets to the Earth's core, or whatever planet they're on, uh, nondescript planet, but Sentry's at the planet's core, where it's warm and the ice around his head melts, and then Sentry's gonna send out a light blast in Zod's direction,

36:39
which is going to create like this cascading effect of like seismic energy and molten lava that just erupts out of the planet at Zod's feet, basically destroying the whole portion of the planet that Zod was standing on. Wait, he did this from the core of the planet? Yeah. Okay, I'm going to say, whoops, meth brain sentry fired in the wrong direction, right? What? No. Yes. Remember kids, meth, not even once.

37:09
The Sentry is not high on meth. I'm sure they're lasting effects. So right now there's this gaping hole in the planet that leads straight to the core where Sentry is. Just freaking cornered, right? So Zod is going to zoom down into that hole and plow right into Sentry. And he's just going to crash him through the rest of the planet out the other side, slamming him through the Earth's mantle along the way. So there's two holes. It's like they're

37:38
fighting on more of a donut than a planet now. Yeah, Zod doesn't care, he's a villain. Well, we'll say they're taking this battle into space then. Zod carries Sentry out into space, but Sentry's gonna send out a powerful omnidirectional light blast that gets Zod off of him and sends Zod craning backward. As Zod gets his bearings from being blasted, all of a sudden, he doesn't see Sentry anymore. Sentry's invisible. Wait, you said light blast. Like, what is Sentry's?

38:08
Energy made of like he has the power of a million exploding suns. So is it like sunlight? No, it's like a You know nondescript light energy. Sure. It is it could produce a force like effect. Okay. All right, so Zod's pushed back and He can't see sentry in space. Oh and he can't hear sentry either because there's no sound in space So in space no one can hear Zod scream. I mean

38:35
Sentry is only invisible to the visible spectrum of light, right? Like Zod has X-ray vision, so he actually sees Sentry's bones clear as day. What? So that's when he's going to let loose like a couple of Kryptonian combat drones that he had in his gauntlet on his arm. And I mean, these are little guys, but they're going to fly one by one toward the Sentry and explode one right after the other, directing Sentry right toward Zod, who's just going to grab Sentry by the neck.

39:04
and enchief this Kryptonian dagger that he's gonna drive right into the Sentry's hearts. R.A.P. Sentry. Yeah, R.A.P. Sentry. What? Except that, you fool, the Sentry has killed the Void before, and the Void has come back. You know why? Because as long as the Sentry exists, the Void exists, and the other way around. Done! So the Sentry may be gone, like temporarily or whatever, but Zod didn't know about the encroaching Void. And when the Void appears,

39:33
Zod's fucked. Like, because the void is gonna reach into Zod's skull with one of his dark infinite tendrils. Just consuming Zod's soul and sapping all the solar light from his body with his darkness. And uh, Zod's now just a floating dead corpse in space. The fuck is an infinite tendril? It's an infinitely long tendril, obviously. You can't just have another fucking character come out of nowhere, like once your character is dead. No. I didn't. This is cheating.

40:02
The Sentry is the Void. They're just different aspects of the same being, you know, the same person. Where did the Void come from? Around, you know, just around, like wherever Zod wasn't looking at the time. That's where he came from. Okay, well, I say since the Void wasn't a player in this match, the Sentry still died first, and so Zod still wins. All right, answer these questions. Is the Sentry the Void? Are they two different people? Is the Void still alive? I don't know.

40:31
I don't know. Case closed. Oh my gosh.

40:36
Let's wrap it up. Yeah, we'll leave it there and take the match to the simulations. Depending on the results in the speculation, either Zod stabs sentry through the heart and kills him or the void consumes Zod's soul. Like a cheater. AG9000, run the simulations. Inputting data, running calculations, processing results, simulations complete. So in keeping with the whole like both of these characters are essentially ripoffs of Superman, their stats.

41:06
were not too dissimilar. General Zoda and Sentry had a ton of categories where they came out even on or close to even including movement speed, durability, strength, perception, and versatility. Yeah, they were also even on intellect because they're both fairly technologically advanced. I actually think that Sentry has the potential to be smarter due to his golden Sentry serum, but his mental issues do come into play. So we said they kind of balanced each other out.

41:36
We did say that the Sentry is slightly more evasive since he does have the ability to turn invisible and he can create force fields, but Zod is a better fighter with all the military training that he's had. I feel like this is gonna be a close one. But of course, since we are recording this episode early, we don't have the Instagram poll results to compare what you guys think to the actual win percentages. That being said, I do think Zod would take that poll because he is, I think, much more popular than Sentry. And- No, he's not.

42:05
Yes, yes, he is. Yes, he is. Has Sentry been in a movie? How many movies has Zod been in? How many cartoons? People love the Sentry. Sentry is stupid and he's gonna kneel before Zod. Well, let's find out. 89,000, the results please. Hey, Yuasa. All right, the winner between General Zod and the Sentry is the Sentry. Sentry kneels before no one.

42:33
It was pretty close though out of the 1000 matches, Sentry won just 509 of them, whereas General Zod won 491. So it was 50.9% to 49.1%. Well, at least it was close. This is a coin toss. I'll be honest with you, it's closer than I thought it would be. You're drawing right at once. Superman and General Zod and all them are, they're pretty dang powerful. Heck yeah they are. But now I guess we can say that Zod kneels before Sentry, which is kind of cool. Zod would never kneel to a fucking joke.

43:03
That's a fucking April Fool's joke, like Sentry. I mean, the stats say otherwise, so what are you gonna do? Son of a bitch. Wait, does this mean Sentry would be Superman? Yes. That's what that means. Everybody knows by now. I'm pretty sure everybody knows. But we're gonna review Ghost Rider, which came out in 2007 and stars Nicolas Cage. So look forward to that. But that does it for this episode.
